Oakwood Deli is expanding into Durham with a proposed second location at 702 and 706 E. Main St., at the corner of East Main and Fayetteville streets. Triangle Business Journal reported that the Raleigh-based deli has filed plans with the City of Durham for the project, which would replace the former home of longtime soul food restaurant JC’s Kitchen.
According to Triangle Business Journal, the proposal calls for the existing 1,400-square-foot building to be replaced with a new, approximately 3,000-square-foot single-story structure. The project would also include an outdoor seating area and four parking spaces on the 0.2-acre property.
The publication reported that the site is located near several established food and beverage businesses, including Aaktun Coffee, Restaurant and Bar, Mezcalito and Ponysaurus Brewing Co.
Oakwood Deli opened its first Raleigh location in April 2025. The deli serves premium sandwiches and breakfast, establishing the concept in Downtown Raleigh before its proposed move into Durham.
Oakwood Deli’s menu goes beyond traditional deli fare, with sandwiches such as the Italian, Reuben and Cuban alongside burgers, tacos, burritos, quesadillas and tortas. Breakfast is served all day and includes options such as a breakfast Reuben, lox bagel, Oakwood Morning Burrito and Nashville hot chicken and waffles. The deli also offers sides including carne asada fries, ceviche and homemade guacamole, according to Oakwood Deli’s website.
WhatNow Charlotte reached out to ownership for additional information, including an anticipated opening timeline, but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
