A new franchisee has recently signed a multi-unit franchise agreement to open at least five locations of The Halal Guys in the greater Charlotte area.

Muhammad Kamran Awan, the president, owner, and CEO of Greensboro-based Mega Group, is getting ready to open the first location of The Halal Guys in Charlotte, starting in early May, according to Charlotte Business Journal. Urban Eatery, a Maga Group subsidiary, is looking for additional sites in Charlotte. Ideal spaces are between 1,800 and 2,300 square feet and are either front-facing, corner locations, an end site, or second-generation spaces.

“I simply love the brand and the strength in the way they present themselves,” Awan tells the Business Journal. “I think that’s primarily why I wanted a Halal Guys and obviously the delicious food that they serve. I love Charlotte, to be honest, as much as New York, just because it’s a happening place.”

The Halal Guys started as a food cart in New York City, which is where Awan discovered the concept. Since then, the Pakistani entrepreneur has invested in real estate and helped popularize the sport of cricket in the United States, eventually becoming the co-owner of the New York Warrior cricket franchise. Now, he’s preparing to bring the halal fast casual restaurant to the Queen City. Customers can expect sandwiches and platters featuring beef, gyro, chicken, falafel, rice, lettuce, tomatoes, and more.

“It is the perfect time to bring American halal to the area and introduce The Halal Guys brand to Charlotte,” Margaret Carrera, The Halal Guys’ chief development officer, tells the Business Journal.
