Known to some as Dog Eden, Dunedin is home to dog lovers of many varieties, but they all have one thing in common: the need for a nice, comfortable place to hang out with their best friends. And this fall, they’re about to find their new favorite spot: Dog Pub Social, which will open at 1260 Main Street.

Behind Dog Pub Social is J.P. Brewer, who has made a career in dog bars. It began with a dog bar in Charlotte about 15 years ago, Brewer told What Now on Friday. After that, Brewer founded the beloved Dog Bar in St. Pete (which has since changed hands), and now the dog-bar entrepreneur is preparing to launch this new Eden-within-an-Eden.

Dog Pub Social will feature two different outdoor play areas (one for small and mid-size dogs, and one for large dogs), all featuring artificial turf, some kiddie pools and other fun features.

“There will be a bar inside the building, and outdoor seating too,” Brewer said. “It’ll be basically beer, wine, and seltzers, with live music, and TVs for sporting events.”

The project also represents a collaboration with Dunedin’s resident dog muralist, Anna Hamilton, who is working on dog murals both inside and outside Dog Pub Social.
