Founded in Los Angeles before moving to the Tampa Bay area, Jimmy’s Tacos has been serving its popular Mexican food—made from scratch daily, following family recipes—in Ybor City since 2018. After building a following in Ybor, the brand is now planning to launch a new location in St. Petersburg’s Grand Central District.

The new location is a major upgrade, owner Jimmy Nunez told What Now on Tuesday.

“Right now we work out of a 300-square-foot kitchen,” Nunez said. “This is triple that size. So we’ll be adding to the menu and getting creative. It will mostly be traditional Mexican food, but we are still going to have our fusion stuff, like our birria egg rolls, bao buns, pizza, and things like that.”

The new location will also feature a full bar, with seating for 125 to 150 guests.

Coverage by Creative Loafing Tampa Bay says the new location is expected to open at 2536 Central Avenue in August 2025.
