After over a year of the prolonged license application process, a new farm, winery, and tasting room at 6620 Dexter Ann Arbor Rd. recently received license approvals from Scio Township. The 70-acre farm will offer events, wine tasting, and dining options.

Founders Brian and Lori Herron considered naming the business Social Vines, indicating the socialization aspect of wine tasting. The idea to create the winery has always been of interest, although the idea didn’t solidify until 2019. However, the proposed winery received local backlash as nearby residents expressed concerns about the noise the new business may generate.

The business received a conditional use permit in 2022 and has since been moving through the licensing process slowly. The Herrons have made efforts to negotiate with neighbors and meet the township requirements to acquire their remaining licenses and settle any discomforts that may linger in the neighborhood.

“As pioneers in our township, we are poised to establish the very first tasting room, bringing a touch of sophistication and relaxation to our community. With licensing and permits well underway, we are on the brink of a new era in local winemaking. ” The owners wrote online.

As of now, the winery and tasting room is still aiming for a 2024 opening. The winery is also currently hiring for winemakers online. By the time of the coverage, the owners were not available for comments.
