Gigi’s Italian Kitchen and Restaurant in Candler Park plans to expand its operations into the approximately 1,400-square-foot neighboring space, according to a permit reviewed by What Now Atlanta.

The permit, which was filed by restaurant co-owner Jacob Armando, says it will use the new space to create a bar area, as well as an office and additional storage. It will cost approximately $67,580, according to the permit.

Coined as a “cozy space” on its website, Gigi’s currently seats six tables with seven counter seats available, only taking limited reservations. Walk-ins are welcome but not guaranteed a table. It is open on Friday-Tuesday from 5-10 p.m., according to its website.

The dinner restaurant has a select menu with salads, appetizers including beef carpaccio and caviar and polenta, and main courses including bucatini alla puttanesca and chicken marsala, as well as seasonal vegetables. It also offers desserts, including its “world famous” tiramisu, and a drink menu with cocktails, beer and wine.

The restaurant was formerly called Gato before rebranding when now-owners Armando and Eric Brooks took over in August 2022.

“What really drew us to GiGi’s in the first place is the fact that it’s one of the last pieces of old Atlanta that has so much charm and character,” Brooks told What Now Atlanta during its grand re-opening. “We don’t want to take away from [it]. We just want to make the space more efficient.”

The newly filed permit seems to have similar intentions.
