Asama Coldwater Manufacturing Georgia LLC is moving to close its facility in the Eastern Central part of the state. Over the last few months, the firm located at 975 Thomson Highway in Warrenton, has filed several Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filings which affected 276 employees.
Three WARN Notices Affect 276 Employees
Asama Coldwater Manufacturing is a long-established automotive parts manufacturer specializing in brake rotors and other cast-iron components. Founded in 1996, the company operates manufacturing facilities in Michigan and Georgia, supplying automotive components to the North American market.
In October 2022, the company announced a planned $19 million, 39,000-square-foot expansion of its Coldwater facility, expected to create 32 jobs.
The first notice, filed on July 9 with the Technical College System of Georgia, listed 107 affected employees and three expected separation dates: September 18 and December 31, 2026, and March 31, 2027
A second notice, filed on August 19, listed 102 affected employees, with separation dates of October 14 and December 31, 2026, and March 31, 2027.
A third notice, filed on October 30, listed 67 affected employees, with separation dates of December 31, 2026, and March 31, 2027.
As per legal requirements, a 60-day advance notice is required when more than 100 workers will be impacted. The advance warning gives state and local officials and other groups time to assist in providing resources to displaced workers. Available support may include job-search assistance, information about unemployment benefits, and access to training or retraining programs.
Human resource administrators and other company or local government officials should be contacted for those employees that need help transitioning.
The WARN notices identify David Sutherland, senior manager of human resources, and Kathy Banks, assistant manager of human resources, as company contacts.
The Asama Coldwater Manufacturing plant was acquired in 2013 and in 2015 a state-of-the-art machining and paint facility was constructed at this site. According to the company’s website the secondary location allows ACM to better meet the delivery needs of its customers in the southern United States.
