A new Mongolian restaurant called Bolzot is aiming to secure a liquor license to open at 55 Market Street, according to paperwork filed with the community board this month.
The spot will serve traditional Mongolian cuisine. The proposed menu features appetizers like bansh (small dumplings filled with minced meats and onions), khuushuur (deep-fried meat pasties) and boortsog (traditional Mongolian fried dough). Entrees include buuz (steamed dumplings filled with seasoned minced meat), tsuivan (stir-fried noodles with meat and vegetables) and khorkhog (Mongolian barbecue with meat and vegetables). Other offerings will include salads, soups like guriltai shul (a noodle soup with meat and vegetables) and desserts like chatsargana cake (a cake made from sea buckthorn berries).
Nyamsuren Unurbayan and Seran Lee are behind the venture. Unurbayan has worked on the New York hospitality scene as a bartender and manager at spots like Revelie in SoHo, Three of Cups in SoHo and Middle Eastern restaurant Kubeh in West Village. Lee has experience as a server and bartender at spots like Greek restaurant Anatoli 56 in Midtown East and Let’s Talk Soho in SoHo. Like Unurbayan, Lee also worked as a manager at Three of Cups and previously worked at Kubeh.
Bolzot is expected to have six indoor tables and 16 seats, as well as one stand-up bar on the ground floor that will seat 11, according to the paperwork.
The proposed hours are 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. everyday.
As of now, an opening timeline is unclear.
