The Office of Food Protection of the Philadelphia Department of Health conducts timely food safety inspections across restaurants. In the latest inspection on April 16, a popular eatery demonstrated unsatisfactory results.

Due to the nature of the food safety violations at the Philadelphia food facility, food inspectors ordered the ice cream place to shut down.

“The ice cream shop is a popular spot for Philadelphia’s sweet tooth enthusiasts. Chloe’s Corner is also famous for its late-night grill. Menu highlights include vanilla soft serve with sprinkles, toffee crunch, banana split, and Italian ice. The Philadelphia-based ice cream shop serves tater tots and cheesesteaks as well.

Chloe’s Corner failed to clear the inspection by the Office of Food Protection of the Philadelphia Department of Health this Wednesday. Food inspectors found multiple health violations at the Main Street-based ice cream shop.

Inspection Findings at Chloe’s Corner

The inspection report noted that a food safety-certified person was absent during the stringent test. Inspectors found that the paper towel dispenser was empty at Chloe’s Corner’s handwash sink in the basement and front prep area. Paper towels were added during the inspection itself.

Going ahead, food inspectors found that beef was left uncovered in the Philadelphia food facility’s refrigerator. This issue was also corrected during the inspection.

The inspection report then highlighted the issue of mouse droppings, which were found in the food prep area. This included areas under the cooking equipment, a drying rack, and the basement floor of Chloe’s Corner. Additionally, food inspectors also found a cat in the food facility.

In their report, the inspectors highlighted cleanliness and sanitation problems at Chloe’s Corner. Damaged Quat test strips were found in the ware wash area. Grease formation was found behind the Philadelphia food facility’s deep fryer.

The report stated that trash was overflowing at Chloe’s Corner. Plus, its male toilet room was not self-closing.

Based on the inspection report, the Philadelphia-based ice cream place has been asked to stop operations. Food inspectors have asked it to submit an application and obtain the City of Philadelphia Department of Public Health Food Establishment Personnel Food Safety Certificate in 30 days.
