Easter Sunday is approaching, and it often involves last-minute shopping for many people. While that is not ideal, emergencies can occur, making it crucial to keep a note of all the operational chains during this festive weekend. A host of big retailers, such as Costco and Target, will remain closed on account of this “retail blackout.” But a few stores will remain open.

Grocery and Retail Stores Open for Business on Easter Sunday

Retail stores such as Walmart and Trader Joe’s will remain open on Easter Sunday. Most Whole Foods locations will also be open, though some may have modified hours. Other stores that will remain open during Easter Weekend are listed below:

  • Harveys
  • Jewel-Osco
  • ACME
  • Albertsons
  • Tom Thumb
  • Vons
  • Meijer
  • Food Lion
  • Harris Teeter
  • Lidl

Giant Eagle and Market District Supermarkets are also going to be operational on April 20, 2025. Most brands under the Kroger family of companies will remain open on Easter Sunday, though hours may vary by location.

Stores Partially Open for Business on Easter Sunday

Certain Whole Foods stores will close early at 6 pm per the outlet due to the day’s celebrations. Moreover, Ace Hardware stores are independently owned. Hence, opening hours will vary by location. Most Victoria’s Secret stores are expected to remain open, subject to the hours of operation of the mall in which they are located.

Sephora stores will also be open based on their location. Hours for clothing retailers Old Navy, Banana Republic, Athleta, and GAP stores will also be subject to their location. It is suggested that one use their store locator to learn of their specific hours.

Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s are expected to remain open between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Easter Sunday. REI stores are open from noon until 6 p.m on Easter Sunday. Furthermore, IKEA stores have also reduced their opening hours and will only remain operational between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. local time.

Retailers Closing for Easter Sunday

According to reports, Target, Costco, and Sam’s Club warehouses will remain closed on account of Easter Sunday on April 20. Lowe’s, TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, and HomeGoods will also draw the shutters for the weekend. Macy’s, Nordstrom, and Nordstrom Rack stores will also be closed on Easter Sunday.

According to reports by several outlets, Easter is a big time for candy and chocolate sales, followed closely by food and groceries. During previous years, Easter gifts and toys also saw increased purchases. Additionally, Home decor and flowers were purchased liberally. According to the National Retail Federation, consumers are expected to spend $23.6 billion during Easter 2025 festivities.

While festivities often call for last-minute purchases, retail stores across the country are now looking at shutting their stores for holidays such as Thanksgiving and Easter Sunday to allow employees time off from work.
