Food Safety Violations Lead to Unfavorable Health Inspection Results
Two restaurants and one brewery in Charleston and Kanawha counties were cited for food safety violations. The health department has released the details of the inspections conducted at the establishments.
Kentucky Fried Chicken
- Where: 4018 MacCorkle Avenue, South Charleston, WV 25309
- When: May 7, 2025
The restaurant is one of the two South Charleston locations of the fast food restaurant chain KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken). It serves all of the chain’s popular items, from fried chicken buckets to meals, along with sides.
Inspectors from the health department visited the KFC location in South Charleston for a routine inspection that lasted 30 minutes. A total of two violations were reported, one being a core violation and the other being a Priority Foundation Violation.
Violations Reported
The report stated that the Person in Charge (PIC) at the establishment is not performing their duty adequately. The report specified that the PIC must ensure or provide training so that employees have Food handling certification.
The second violation was noted as the vents in the lobby and kitchen were visibly dirty. This was noted as a core violation.
All the violations listed in the inspection report must be corrected within the time frames mentioned. Further, the restaurant will face a follow-up inspection on May 21, 2025.
Bamboo Garden Restaurant

Bamboo Garden Restaurant serves Chinese cuisine, with a menu that is as authentic as it is delicious. Diners can choose from a variety of chow mein, fried rice, and other dishes.
The health inspection that lasted about an hour at Bamboo Garden Restaurant revealed several violations. Four core violations and two priority foundation violations were listed in the report.
Violations Reported
As a Priority Foundation item, the report said that the Person in charge was not performing their duties as food handler cards were missing at the restaurant. The report instructed the employees to make sure they have valid food handler cards and are available for inspection.
There were no Sanitizer Test Strips at the restaurant, marking another Priority Foundation violation in the report.
Four core violations were reported, which need to be addressed. The Certified Food Protection Manager was absent from the site. Dirty Cooking Equipment was also found on the premises.
The report also said the flooring throughout the facility needed general cleaning. The walls and ceilings throughout the back of the house also needed cleaning.
The rear door was observed to be open at the time of inspection, allowing the possible entry of insects and rodents. Food items were seen stored on the floor of the walk-in freezer, marking another violation.
The follow-up inspection at the restaurant will happen on May 28, 2025, the inspection report noted. The team at the restaurant will have to rectify all the issues to avoid further action from the health department.
Fife Street Brewing

Fife Street Brewing serves its own brews in Downton Charleston. They also serve a variety of snacks, salads, and elevated grilled cheeses. Cider, wine, and spritzers are also offered on the menu.
In an inspection that went on for 45 minutes at Fife Street Brewing, multiple violations were reported. Two core items and two priority foundation items made up a total of four violations at the restaurant.
Violations Reported
Marking the first priority foundation violation, the permit or inspection report was not posted in a spot visible to the public. The facility lacked test strips for the sanitizer that was being used by the facility, marking the second violation.
The certified food manager card was not available at the restaurant, which was the first instance of a core violation. A powdered substance was seen stored inside an unlabeled container, which marked the second core violation.
According to the inspection report, the restaurant will face a follow-up inspection on May 15, 2025. It will have to resolve all the issues within the time frames mentioned and pass the follow-up inspection to retain its permit.
The establishments will now be working towards fixing the issues reported. They must resolve all the issues within the time period mentioned in the report to avoid further punitive actions.
