While the summer season is kicking in, Palm Beach ice cream enthusiasts are set to bid farewell to a beloved local institution. Sprinkles Ice Cream stated that its final service will be this May.
Highlights
- Sprinkles Ice Cream will cease its operations in Palm Beach on May 26.
- Extended time for the repair work of its building at 279 Royal Poinciana Way led to the decision.
- The 40-year-old scoop shop might come back to a different location.
Sprinkles Ice Cream to Close Its Doors This May
In a bittersweet announcement to residents of Palm Beach, the historic ice cream brand announced its plans to wind up operations permanently in the town. Located on 279 Royal Poinciana Way, Palm Beach, Sprinkles Ice Cream, a 40-year-old ice cream giant, will close its doors this month.
Sharing further details, Anson Ainsworth, the scoop shop’s owner, stated that they would be offering their ice creams, smoothies, milkshakes, etc., for one last time on May 26.
Extended Building Repair Period Guides Closure Decision
Sprinkles Ice Cream has chosen to shut down due to troubles with maintaining momentum amid its extended building repair process at Royal Poinciana Way. Flagler System Management Inc. had acquired the Palm Beach-based ice cream brand’s building for $11 million in 2022.
It cited the potential remodeling required for the place for better operations for the acquisition. However, the repair process took longer than anticipated.
With this, the four-decade-old ice cream shop, which offered 32+ flavors and hosted local artisans, will shut its doors.
About Sprinkles Ice Cream
The popular ice cream place in Palm Beach started serving frozen indulgences in 1985. Having opened at 279 Royal Poinciana Way, Palm Beach, FL 33480, United States, it has been a fixture since then.
Sprinkles Ice Cream has earned the admiration of Palm Beach’s ice cream lovers for its 32+ flavors. The menu included not only ice cream, sherbet, and sorbet but also sundaes, milkshakes, sodas, coffee, and tea.
Apart from this, the Palm Beach-based ice cream hotspot presented local artisans with a platform to sell their items.
A Celebrity Favorite
The craze for Sprinkles can be traced back to the time when Michael Jackson went to the place for a scoop in 2003. This is how the Palm Beach-based ice cream spot not only amazed everyday folks but also known celebrities.
Additionally, in 2003 itself, the ice cream giant won “the very best” title in People’s America’s hometown ice cream category 2003. The title was particularly for the brand’s triple chocolate supreme flavor.
Leadership Changes Over The Years
Changes in ownership date back to 2001 for the ice cream establishment. That year, Frank and Walsh Manley bought it from the Williams family. Sprinkles Ice Cream’s ownership then went into the hands of Donna Marks, who had purchased the ice cream shop in 2002.
Subsequently, Olga Cherkasova bought Sprinkles from Donna Marks in 2016. Finally, the ice cream shop’s current owners, the husband-wife duo of Ainsworth and Cortney Berry, took charge of the place from Cherkasova in 2023.
The new owners added soups and sandwiches to the menu, but not much changed.
Relocation Plans in the Pipeline
In their official statements before closure, Sprinkles’ owners announced that they are thinking of taking their beloved ice cream shop to another location. No site has been chosen as of now.
