Q Hibachi Express closed the second San Antonio restaurant at South Acme Road less than six months after opening in December 2024. The closure marks the end of the short-lived Westside expansion of the popular Japanese restaurant.

Highlights:

  • Q Hibachi Express opened a branch at South Acme Road in December 2024, but is now permanently closed.
  • The Nogalitos Street location is still operating with regular business hours of 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • A local Facebook post carried comments regarding the Japanese restaurant’s shutdown.

Short-Lived Westside Dreams

The Japanese restaurant Q Hibachi Express had been flourishing on Nogalitos Street since opening approximately one year prior. Riding the wave, the business expanded with a second San Antonio Westside location in December 2024.

But this expansion was short-lived. The South Acme Road location did not even survive months before shutting down, leaving the business to operate solely from its original location.

MySA contacted the restaurant to verify reports of closure after news started spreading. On Wednesday, May 21, MySA attempted multiple calls at both locations of Q Hibachi Express to seek verification.

The South Acme Road office did not return the call, while one individual at the Nogalitos Street eatery did. When asked whether the second location was closed, the unidentified person at the original location answered that it did.

What the Neighborhood Is Saying

The curiosity around closure initially appeared on social media. MySA learned about it after Ashley Nicole wrote in the San Antonio Restaurants Facebook group that the South Acme Road location was “no longer going to be open.”

Several commenters concurred with her assertion, and residents shared their experiences. One said they’d attempted to visit the location recently.

Some commenters suggested the location itself may have contributed to the closure. In fact, a Facebook user commented, “That building is cursed. Not even Subway made it there.”

While the Westside location has shut down, the first Q Hibachi Express location is still in business. The restaurant, at 2920 Nogalitos St., continues operating daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m..

The facility has been at the center of the business’ success in San Antonio, having been in operation for around one year and establishing a loyal customer base in the area.

Daily Operations and Menu Offerings

Q Hibachi Express provides a variety of affordable Japanese dishes with grilled favorites. The menu includes steak, chicken, and shrimp, grilled to order on the hibachi.

The restaurant is a go-to destination in San Antonio for quick, fresh hibachi foods full of flavor. On Nogalitos Street, they have a host of grilled favorites, including tender chicken and steak, all made on the hibachi grill.

The restaurant has a relaxed, friendly setting intended to make it convenient for people to have a great meal whenever they wish, whether in the mood for a swift lunch or a cozy dinner.

Although Q Hibachi Express’ venture at expansion was halted when South Acme Road closed down, the original location on Nogalitos Street continues operating and serving up customers their standard hibachi cuisine and maintaining their established position on the San Antonio dining scene.
