Authentic French bakery La Farm Bakery has plans to expand to North Carolina State University this fall, taking over a space at 101 Current Drive in Raleigh, according to the Triangle Business Journal.

Master baker Lionel Vatinet, who received recognition from the James Beard Foundation as a semifinalist for “Outstanding Baker” in 2015, and his wife Missy are behind the bakery concept. He opened the bakery in 1998 and it has grown throughout the Triangle from there.

Vatinet is known for his signature French-style sourdough bread and his innovation in American artisanal bread baking.

“Vatinet possesses a superior understanding of the fundamentals of French bread baking and a zeal for American innovation, and as a result has developed imaginative breads such as Asiago-Parmesan, White Chocolate Mini Baguette, Cinnamon-Raisin-Pecan, Multi-Grain and Walnut Sage,” the La Farm Bakery website states.

The Cary-based bakery currently has locations in Preston Corners, Downtown Cary, West Cary, Fuquay-Varina, Glenwood South in Raleigh and Creekside Crossing in Raleigh.

It serves fresh bread, pastries and seasonal items featuring ingredients from local farmers. La Farm Bakery also has a cafe side to the business, serving breakfast, brunch, coffee, lunch and dinner.

“La Farm Bakery is a modern bakery where families come together around the table to share their lives as they share a good meal,” the website states. “The founding philosophy of La Farm is born out of the experience and tutelage of Vatinet’s training in France’s prestigious artisans’ guild, Les Compagnons du Devoir. Our goal is to continue the centuries-old baking traditions and techniques, honoring the ordinary, yet extraordinary, boulangeries that once flourished in every little town in France.”
