Something exciting is sliding into Fishtown this autumn. The Slider Co. may have started life in Wilmington, but it’s about to become a Philadelphia favorite. The restaurant is bringing its delicious tiny burgers to the City of Brotherly Love, and will be building up excitement with a pop-up prior to the opening, reports the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The Slider Co. is setting up its grill in a 2 story, 2,400 square foot building located at 2043 Frankford Avenue. The restaurant will occupy the first floor and will offer dine-in and al fresco seating options for up to 25 visitors.
The building will require relatively substantial work before The Slider Co. is able to welcome guests; both the interior and exterior will be undergoing a full renovation. Despite the extent of work required, co-owner William Johnson still anticipates opening the Fishtown location in October or November. The restaurant’s hours of operation will be Tuesdays through Sundays, from 11 am to around 10 pm.
The brain-child of Johnson and his business partner Anesha Garrett, The Slider Co. is looking to fill a lunch-time void in the Fishtown neighborhood. Johnson states: “We met with a lot of our advisers, and they felt like during the hours before all the prominent restaurants opened up for dinner, there was nothing to serve them during lunch, and so we want to kind of tap into that market.”
Philadelphians too hungry to sample The Slider Co.’s fare to wait can stop into a South Kensington pop-up, open now. A press release provided to What Now Philadelphia explains that the concept will be set up for three months in the courtyard of The Luxe, located at 1705 North American Street.
Johnson, a Philly-native, is looking forward to showing his hometown what he can do. He states: “The sky is the limit for how far we see The Slider Co. going. Our goal is to become a nationwide brand and open locations all over the country. But for now, we are thrilled to be popping up in our hometown of Philadelphia to show the sandwich capital of America what we’re all about.”
