Health officials visited Iztaccihuatl Restaurant during the inspection. According to the report, the Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of the Philadelphia Food Code. They also observed that several raw animal foods were stored above ready-to-eat foods in the walk-in cooler.

The inspectors noted the front door open during the inspection; the outer opening in the food facility does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals. Food was not stored at least 6 inches above the floor in the walk-in cooler. Food employees were observed not wearing effective hair restraints.

As per the inspection report, rusting was observed at some non-food contact surfaces. Inspectors observed grease and soil accumulations on the exterior surfaces of cooking equipment. Broken, missing floor tiles, and damaged ceiling panels throughout the kitchen were noted.

Inspectors also cited other issues, such as a non-operational garbage grinder, clogged sinks, and non-functioning lights, according to the report.

The health department instructed the restaurant to correct the violations or risk potential penalties, including suspension of its permit.
