Star Bar, a longtime fixture in the Ballpark neighborhood at 2137 Larimer Street, has submitted plans for a possible expansion of the business into the neighboring lot. While nothing has been green-lighted yet, Developing Denver reports that recent updates show the city is reviewing the proposal.
The business wants to extend into the adjacent 6,250-square-foot lot at 2141 Larimer Street, to make way for a patio, beer garden, stage, and extended back bar. It would hold up to 200 people, and would have live music, yard games, and rotating food trucks, records state. The project has an estimated construction value of estimated at $200,000.
Records from earlier this year were the first sign of possible updates to the property, but owner Justin Lloyd told What Now Denver at the time that they would not be proceeding with the project.” This week, he said the recent permitting activity is merely a toes in the water situation” and that he “has no idea about the outcome of the proposal submitted”.
Open since 1959, Star Bar is an integral part of the scene downtown. Lloyd is a Pueblo native who purchased Star Bar about 15 years ago, with partners Ken Himel, a local broker, and the late investor Jonathan Bush.
