A restaurant that began as a speakeasy spot in Lima, Peru will now be a new dining destination in Fulton Market.

Osaka Nikkei has announced a new location will open in Fulton Market at 1101 W Lake Street later this year. The restaurant is being introduced by Adonay Tafur, executive chef and head of operations at Osaka Restaurants. There is not yet a set opening date.

Currently, there is an Osaka Restaurant U.S. location in Miami, Florida which opened in 2019. In the Block Club Chicago article, Tafur mentioned he has wanted to open in Chicago as he has been eying the food scene for a while.

For the menu, it will feature dishes like Amazonian grilled fish, cooked in banana leaves, and other Peruvian cuisine options to be released at a later time. It will also be a cocktail bar, and the restaurant will have seating for around 150 people.

“In this setting, Osaka offers a refined dining experience that reflects both Chicago’s legacy and its forward energy,” said the description on Osaka’s website.

The Fulton Market District is home to many bars and restaurants. Osaka will be close to Gyuro Ramen, Riccardo Osteria Italian and Forno Rosso Pizzeria Napoletana.
