A taste of Turkey is headed to Watertown.

Sembol Mediterranean Restaurant is moving into the former Edamame Steakhouse space at 171 Watertown St, according to a post shared in the Friends of Boston’s Hidden Restaurants Facebook group.

Owner Ayhan Ayna told What Now Boston that while the project is still in the early permitting stage, he’s eager to become part of the neighborhood. “We’re really excited to be opening in Watertown and to share authentic Turkish flavors with the community,” he said.

The menu will feature traditional Turkish dishes such as döner—spit-roasted meats thinly sliced and served in wraps or on plates—alongside authentic kebabs, fresh-baked breads, and house-made mezze. Ayna noted that offerings will cater to a variety of diets, with both hearty meat options and vegetarian choices.

An opening date has not yet been set, but locals can keep tabs on progress by following @sembolmediterranean on Instagram.

Edamame Steakhouse permanently closed in late May 2025 after three years in Watertown. The restaurant was known for its Asian fusion fare, featuring hibachi-style grilling, sushi, steak, and other Japanese-American dishes.
