Big Y World Class Market is making its way to Norton, where the regional supermarket chain plans to open a new 48,000-square-foot store in the Great Woods Market Place.
According to a press release, the new supermarket will be located at 175 Mansfield Avenue and is slated to open in early 2028. The store will bring Big Y’s signature selection of fresh foods and grocery staples to Norton and surrounding communities.
The upcoming location comes as Big Y continues to expand its presence across Massachusetts, particularly in the eastern part of the state. The family-owned retailer opened a new store in Pembroke in June 2026 and is also preparing to open another location in Saugus. Looking ahead to 2027, Big Y plans to add stores in Fairhaven and North Dartmouth.
“For 90 years, Big Y has proudly served families across New England, and we are excited to continue that tradition in Norton,” said Matt D’Amour, vice president of real estate and development at Big Y. “As we grow, we remain focused on delivering modern, convenient shopping experiences with the personalized service Big Y is known for. We look forward to welcoming customers from Norton and surrounding communities beginning in 2028.”
Founded in 1936 by brothers Paul and Gerald D’Amour, Big Y takes its name from an intersection in Chicopee where two roads meet to form a “Y.” The company has since grown into one of New England’s largest family-owned supermarket chains, with nearly 100 locations across Massachusetts and Connecticut and more than 10,000 employees.
Beyond its namesake supermarkets, Big Y operates Table & Vine, its fine wine, beer, and liquor division, as well as Big Y Express fuel and convenience locations. The company has also earned recognition for its workplace and business practices, including being named a Forbes Best-In-State Employer in Massachusetts and Connecticut for seven consecutive years and one of America’s Most Trustworthy Companies by Newsweek for four consecutive years.
Additional details about hiring, store amenities, and grand opening events are expected to be announced closer to the Norton store’s 2028 opening.
