Viva Barista Coffee is bringing a brick-and-mortar location to downtown Winston-Salem. A building permit filed with the City of Winston Salem indicates that it will open in an 1,800-square-foot building at 229 West Fifth Street.

Ricardo Hidalgo and his son are behind the concept. What Now Charlotte reported last October that Viva Barista was expected to open a coffee shop and roastery in downtown Walkerton, drawing elements of inspiration from the coffee scene in El Salvador. However, it appears that the brick-and-mortar location along Old Hollow Road in Walkertown never came to fruition.

The Instagram page for Viva Barista now advertises that it is “coming soon” to downtown Winston-Salem. The coffee brand offers specialty coffee and also sells its own coffee beans online.

While an exact opening timeline is unclear, it appears that the spot is still in the process of permitting and renovations.
