Obetz is about to get a little less sleepy—and maybe a little more grumpy—in the best way possible. Grumpy’s Coffee Garage, the southeast side’s newest coffee shop, is gearing up to open later this fall at 5210 Groveport Rd, bringing caffeine, comfort, and character to a familiar local landmark.

The name “Grumpy’s” might ring a bell for longtime residents. The new café is setting up shop in what was once Grumpy’s Custom Motorcycle Repair, a space that’s now being thoughtfully repurposed instead of replaced. Keeping the garage’s industrial roots intact, the new owners are creating a welcoming coffeehouse atmosphere that nods to the building’s past while offering a cozy, modern hangout spot for the community.

Early looks on Instagram (@grumpyscoffeegarage) show a space filled with personality—exposed brick, bold signage, and plenty of charm. Alongside espresso drinks and house favorites brewed with coffee roasted by Roosevelt Coffee in Columbus, the shop plans to offer breakfast sandwiches, baked goods, cinnamon rolls, and gluten-free options, making it a one-stop destination for morning pick-me-ups or afternoon treats.

The transformation has been months in the making, with Grumpy’s sharing behind-the-scenes construction updates and teasing the exciting final touches. And for those who like their mornings with a dash of irony, the shop’s branding reminds guests that being a little grumpy—especially before coffee—is perfectly acceptable.

With its blend of local history, craft coffee, and community spirit, Grumpy’s Coffee Garage is shaping up to be one of Obetz’s most anticipated openings of the year.
