Common Rice has applied for a permit to operate at the forthcoming Grandview Crossing food hall, which is currently under construction and slated to open later this year. According to the language in the permit filing, the permit is for mechanical, electrical and plumbing work, as well as kitchen equipment for a merchant stall fit out space within an existing first floor market space within an existing multi-use building, with the projected cost of the work listed within the permit application as $100,000.

The Grandview Crossing development is a project being brought to the area by Thrive Companies, the real estate development company behind numerous other Columbus communities, including Quarry Trails and Jeffrey Park.

What Now Columbus reached out to Khanh Le, the owner of the forthcoming eatery for comment, who shared that the Common Rice menu will be based on a lot of delicious meats and vegetables that also pair well with rice.

Some of those offerings include things like braised lemon grass beef, served with rice and a variety of vegetables. Le said these dishes come together quicker than some of the more time consuming entrees like banh mi or pho. In addition to the dishes being something that’s common or eaten daily, they’re also hearty options that he calls ‘Vietnamese soul food.’

“We’ll serve things in a manner that stays true to Northern Vietnam and focus on the kind of home cooked meals like what my mom made when I was growing up.”

May 3, 2024 editorial note: this article was updated with menu information provided by Le, as well as the name of the market. At the time of this article’s publication the market was called The Collective Market, but Thrive Companies has since announced a name change to The Little Grand Market.
