First and Last Bakery, LLC has recalled its tomato sauce products. The company initiated the recall after discovering a possible Clostridium botulinum contamination in the products. The bacteria can cause a rare but potentially fatal form of food poisoning.

Urgent Recall of Tomato Sauce Products Issued

On October 31, 2025, First and Last Bakery, LLC issued an urgent recall of its First and Last Original sauces. The affected sauces were produced without an approved safety process and were not evaluated to confirm compliance.

Improper processing of low-acid canned foods like tomato sauce can lead to the growth of Clostridium botulinum, which produces a deadly toxin. No illnesses have been reported to date.

Symptoms may include weakness, dizziness, double vision, and difficulty speaking or swallowing. They may also have difficulty breathing, weakness of muscles, abdominal distention, and constipation. When experiencing these symptoms, one should seek immediate medical attention.

The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection identified the risk, and the company is working closely with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ensure a swift recall.

Recalled Product Details

The recall covers First and Last Bakery sauces sold in Connecticut and Massachusetts, including through Big Y supermarkets and other local retailers. The product was supplied between September 22, 2025, and October 28, 2025. The company has temporarily halted sales and production of the sauces.

The products being recalled were packaged in 26 FL OZ jars. Here are the details of the recalled products:

  • First and Last Original Marinara Sauce, Tomato & Basil: Use by 09/26
  • First and Last Original Traditional Pasta Sauce, Meat Flavored: Use by 09/26
  • First and Last Original Puttanesca Sauce, Mildly Hot & Spicy: Use by 09/26

The company urges consumers who have purchased these products to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Customers with questions about the recall can contact the company at 860-956-5000, Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. EST.
