TCBY, an iconic frozen yogurt brand, has made a comeback with an updated store design and local engagement. Once home to more than 3,000 locations nationwide, the chain has faced years of closures, ownership changes, and shifting consumer tastes.
The Oswego reopening marks a meaningful step in TCBY’s effort to regain national traction.
Grand Reopening Marks New Chapter for TCBY Oswego

TCBY Frozen Yogurt outlet is celebrating the reopening at 2840 US Highway 34, Oswego, IL 60543, on November 22. Going through a journey full of ups and downs, the brand is now ready to celebrate its comeback under new ownership in a grand way.
On Saturday, November 22, from 11 am to closing time, the brand will offer an amazing BOGO special. Patrons are encouraged to gather their friends and family for a fun-filled celebration.
There will be Buy One, Get One Free frozen yogurt all day long, lots of free giveaways, and surprises for guests. The menu also appeals to health-conscious guests looking for a lighter alternative to traditional ice cream.
Its lineup of rich, creamy frozen yogurt made with live active cultures, including dairy-free and low-fat options, helps the brand reach a wider customer base.
TCBY’s Evolving National Presence in the Frozen Yogurt Market
While TCBY once commanded a massive footprint, it has contracted sharply over the past two decades. A report by QSR Magazine shows that by 2022, the chain had reduced to only 168 domestic franchises.
This downsizing was due to the greater industry-wide challenges in the frozen yogurt category, as well as financial strain across its parent company. Financial turbulence has been a part of TCBY’s journey. In 2008, its parent company, Mrs. Fields Famous Brands, declared bankruptcy under Chapter 11 because of the accumulating debts. The restructuring reshaped ownership and set the stage for future strategic realignments.
According to Business Wire, Pearl Street Equity acquired Famous Brands Franchising, the parent company of TCBY and Mrs. Fields, in late 2023.
According to TCBY’s website, the brand currently has over 250 franchise locations, with a highly diversified frozen-treat menu, including low-fat, no-sugar-added, and plant-based offerings.
TCBY is now pursuing selective franchising expansion. The Oswego reopening signals the chain’s broader comeback strategy. As the frozen yogurt market evolves, the return of this longtime favorite brings a sense of nostalgia to local residents and underscores the brand’s push to re-establish itself.
