Vegan dishes will be served at a brick-and-mortar from the owners of an Eastern Market favorite.

Owners of The Original Meat took to Instagram to announce their new location coming to Belleville early next year. It will be at 149 South Street near the city’s downtown. Right now, they are hoping for a Jan. 26 open date if licensing and inspections go as planned.

“We are excited to share that we are making plans to open a carryout restaurant at a new, second location in Belleville, MI,” says the recent post.

The company currently operates out of Eastern Market Shed #5 in Detroit and schedule pickup times by appointment. Rather than being open during the market’s times of the year, the location will be open year round. Their new restaurant will also be carryout, and details on the hours are being released in the near future.

“Our primary aim is to encourage people to eat a plant-based diet,” Roach told What Now Portland.

Dishes The Original Meat currently serves include large granola, veggie burgers, their OMG (Original Meat Gyro) and a vegan pot pie. Specialty items like the OMG Nachos have been served at events like Eastern Market After Dark. For Belleville, this will be one of the first vegan-dedicated restaurants for the area.

The Original Meat has been around since 2018 serving events around Detroit, and this marks their first permanent location. They have heard the pleads from customers to open a year-round spot, and now they are listening.
