Cafe Starlings, a new concept from Overland Hospitality, Inc., is set to make its debut in Palms at 3601 S. Overland Avenue.

The new cafe will move into the space previously occupied by The Overland Cafe, which closed after more than 50 years in business. Overland Hospitality, led by President Johnnie Jenkins, has submitted documentation to the Los Angeles City Planning Department to open the cafe. Although an opening date has not yet been confirmed, the project is currently in the planning stages.

Cafe Starlings will occupy the 875-square-foot space, centrally located in the Overland District, a growing area known for its diverse restaurants and its proximity to luxury apartments, new developments, and major tech campuses. Other nearby eateries include n/naka, Mee & Greet, the Little Marionette, and The Doughroom.

Before this, Jenkins has served as a general manager for several concepts across Los Angeles, including Canal Club, Air Conditioned Supper Club, Venice Beach Wines, and Tar & Roses, demonstrating more than enough experience for this new venture.

The Overland Cafe was a longtime staple in Palms, known for its all-day California fare and busy brunch scene. It closed following the passing of longtime owner Mark Sands, and the building has since been put up for sale. The new owners aim to bring a fresh concept to the neighborhood while honoring the space’s legacy.

Although details about the cafe’s menu and overall concept remain under wraps, the location’s long history as a brunch destination and its prime spot in Palms make it an ideal location for a new food-and-beverage venture.

As Palms continues to evolve with more residential and commercial development, Cafe Starlings will capitalize on the area’s revitalization, bringing both locals and visitors a new spot to gather, relax, and enjoy good food and drinks.
