A James Beard award winning chef is preparing to bring one of his masterpieces to the DMV. Uchiko, an innovative Japanese restaurant from Chef Tyson Cole, is making visible progress on its first regional home, and Bethesda diners will be able to sample its fare in the near future, reports local media outlet PoPville.
The acclaimed concept has officially made its presence known in its upcoming 7315 Wisconsin Avenue storefront. Signage in the windows makes it clear to passersby that Uchiko will be coming soon to the former home of Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. Unfortunately for hungry Bethesda foodies, “coming soon” is as specific as we can be at this point; while ownership has expressed optimism at opening before the end of the year, a precise opening date is not presently available.
Once Uchiko does open its doors, guests will be able to enjoy a unique dining experience, including the chance to see sushi chefs preparing their meals alongside fire cooking-the star of the show. Uchiko puts a particular emphasis on the use of fire in its meal preparation, whether that presents as smoking, charring or live-fire cooking.
Uchiko-an offshoot of Cole’s Uchi restaurant-will be making its area debut in a 9,000 square foot space, with room to accommodate up to 200 in its dining room. The restaurant will also feature a sushi bar and a cocktail bar alongside two additional private dining rooms.
