Bellaire Boulevard is in store for a huge improvement with the opening of a multimillion-dollar development, the Bellaire Food District, set to open in Spring 2027.

If the name sounds familiar, that’s because it is. The new shopping center is a spinoff of the nearby Bellaire Food Street, a project Kevin Kan opened in 2019. According to a recent state filing, the new multi-eatery spot will sit at 9229 Bellaire Blvd. While the report details that construction on the new Bellaire Food District is slated to start next May and wrap up by May 2027, Kan told What Now Houston that some of the restaurants at the soon-to-be Asiantown hot spot will likely open later than May 2027. No word just yet on what those new dining destinations will be, Kan shares that he plans to bring the best the world has to offer to Houston’s Chinatown.

“Our mission is to showcase the best of global multicultural cuisine in a familiar setting,” Kan said.

“Together, these developments reinforce Chinatown as a destination where community, culture, and food intersect, celebrating the past while shaping the future of what Chinatown has to offer.”

While the website doesn’t have a whole lot of details, it does have a 3D rendering of the project, a snapshot of what to expect at the future establishment.

When Kan opened the Bellaire Food Street back in 2019, he detailed a list of restaurants, bakeries, and dessert shops, including the first hotteok eatery in the area, Captain Bbang, but it closed this year, according to the Houston Chronicle.

“Bellaire Food Street has marked a turning point for the neighborhood, transforming the area into a vibrant culinary destination and elevating the visibility of Houston’s Chinatown. Its success has showcased the diversity and creativity the community has to offer,” Kan said.

“Building upon the impact of Bellaire Food Street, we continue this journey with Bellaire Food District, the next chapter designed to expand the experience even further.”

The Bellaire Food District and at least some of its restaurants are expected to open at 9229 Bellaire Blvd. in Spring 2027.
