A unique concept is taking shape in the town south of Detroit.

From their Facebook, Chapel Coffee Co. is coming to 1148 Monroe Street next spring. This will be inside a chapel that has been around since 1883. Right now, construction is happening inside the building.

Owner Catrina Staats has been planning this new concept for about two years. Along with the new coffee shop, she is a self-employed cake artist and cook in the area. Staats and fellow staff are designing a space for families and friends to gather for coffees, teas, pastries and sandwiches.

“We’re transforming this 1883 chapel into a beautiful palace for community, where friends gather over great coffee and fresh bites,” says the recent Facebook post.

The cafe is coming to the north side of Monroe Street at the intersection of Matthews. This is across the street from the Wolf’s Den bar and Nina’s Italian Pizza. The location has not yet been listed online.

Staats has been teasing the new cafe since last June, and it looks to finally be coming soon. The menu will be extensive with everything from blended drinks, to waffles to breakfast sandwiches. As construction is progressing, more updates will be provided on their Facebook page.
