Cherished bars and taprooms, along with decades-old restaurants, said goodbye to San Antonio. Many restaurants cited slowing business, financial pressure, and rising costs,. The list of closures includes:
1. Phoenix Chinese Cafe

A local favorite, the restaurant decided to close its doors after serving for two decades. Phoenix Chinese Cafe, located in the West Avenue, the restaurant was popularly known for its authentic Cantonese cuisine and offers classic American Chinese favorites. The restaurant space featured a comfortable and cozy environment.
The restaurant served hot and flavorful Chinese dishes like Szechuan chicken, Phoenix-style chicken, and stir-fried noodles.

2. Oscar’s Taco House

Oscar Taco House, a 60-year-old taco spot in 705 Barrett Place, said goodbye to the San Antonio community this June. According to reports, owner Alex Pruneda said the U.S. government purchased the restaurant to build a bridge.
Founded in 1962, the taco house had served spicy Mexican food for years and had earned ‘fan favorite’ status with its puffy tacos. Some other popular items on the menu included Beef puffy tacos with cheese, half-fried chicken, and Nachos.

3. Tiago’s Cabo Grille

A beloved Mexican restaurant, Tiago’s Cabo Grille, bid farewell after serving for almost two decades. The eatery featured modern Mexican and coastal dishes inspired by Cabo San Lucas, and was specialized in wood-grilled items. Tiago’s have served the San Antonio community since 2007, the menu features variety of burritos and wraps.
Recommended items included Chicken enchiladas Verdes, Baja Maji Fish Tacos, and signature Chicken Quesadilla.

4. Cascabel Mexican Patio

Another Mexican staple restaurant in Southtown San Antonio has permanently closed its doors after 22 wonderful years. The owners of Cascabel Mexican Patio shared the heartbreaking news of its closure via social media.
The restaurant offered a vibrant and comfortable space ideal for casual dining. Its patio was a standout feature, where locals enjoyed relaxing and sharing meals together.
It served homestyle Mexican cuisine, the menu included Empanadas, Quesadilla and Cascabel eggs.
When: July 23
5. Jim’s Restaurant

Jim’s Restaurant, located in 11803 Bandera Rd served for 27 years, before closing its doors permanently this year. The restaurant was well known for its homestyle American food, breakfast special and local favorite Frontier burgers. The space featured a comfortable and friendly vibe, and all items were available at a reasonable price.
All time favorite menu itms included Chicken Fried Steak Dinner, Texas toast, Chicken tenders and breakfast special items like Pancakes and Waffles.

6. Bill Miller Bar-B-Q

Located on the State Highway, Bill Miler Bar-B-Q, said goodbye after half-a century of service. The iconic BBQ was landmark location of San Antonio, and offered casual family-style dining option.
The eatery served a wide range of options, from classic Texan BBQ meals to breakfast items and baked goods. Popular menu items were Wrangler Rib Plate, Poor Boy Sandwich, and Rancher Plate.

7. Nama Ramen

A popular Japanese spot at Babcock Road, Nama Ramen, closed its doors after serving for a decade. With its spicy and flavorful ramen bowl and sushi menu, the restaurant was a local favorite spot for a quick get-away to Japan. The restaurant operated till late-hours and become a hangout spot for anime-lovers.
The space featured Japanese-inspired décor, vibrant colors, and anime characters painted on the walls. Apart from delicious ramen, the menu also offered popular dishes like edamame, gyoza, and yakisoba.

8. The Amp Room

A decade-old live music venue, the AMP Room, shut down in San Antonio. The location was very popular for its energetic nightlife with its regular music events.
The venue hosted local and touring bands, karaoke nights, ’80s and ’90s themed dance events, and DJ sets. It was also known for its vintage rustic décor, spacious dance floor, and lively outdoor patio.

9. Good Time Charlie

Owned by Ed and Millard, Good Time Charlie’s Bar & Cafe started its journey in 1979, and after serving for 46 years, it has closed its doors. The space had an old-school vibe and offered hearty and comfortable American family-style cuisine.
Recommended popular menu items included Jalapeño cheese burger, chicken-fried steak, and classic cheeseburger with pickles and tomatoes.

10. Mash’D

Mash’D, a cherished dining spot at The Rim, shut its doors after 13 years. Before closing its doors permanently, the restaurant hosted a special brunch on its last weekend.
Mash’D featured juicy burgers, crispy chicken items, BBQ sauce, signature Detroit-style Pizza, Avocado Toast, Bulgogi Tacos, and Turkey Burgers.
