Super Duper Burgers, a San Francisco-founded fast-casual restaurant known for its better burger approach, is getting ready to open a new cafe location in San Francisco at Union Square along Stockton Street.

The company’s new location is set to take over the cafe space on the east side of Union Square, according to a press release from the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. The Recreation and Park Commission is expected to approve a five-year lease with two five-year extension options, with the cafe anticipated to open in early fall 2026 following City-led renovations. The space is one of two restaurant locations within Union Square’s public plaza, joining b. Patisserie, which opened a kiosk on the west side of the square in March 2025. Customers can expect Super Duper’s full menu of burgers, fries, shakes, and organic soft serve in a fast-casual setting.

“We’re thrilled to open in Union Square, an iconic destination in the heart of the city where we can show both locals and visitors alike what makes the Bay Area great,” Edmondo Sarti, Co-Owner of Super Duper Burgers, said in a press release. “From a brand that was born right here in San Francisco, we believe in the future of this city and are committed to growing here and supporting our local community.”

The Union Square cafe will include outdoor seating and below-ground food storage facilities. Recent State of California Business and Economic Development grant funding is being used to modernize the space, including adding on-site cooking capabilities to support expanded food service. The Department reported significant interest in the location, hosting four pre-proposal site visits in summer 2025 and reviewing seven proposals from food and beverage operators before selecting Super Duper.

The menu at Union Square will include Super Duper’s steakhouse-quality beef from Brandt Beef, free-range chicken sandwiches, organic veggie burgers, French fries, and garlic fries with fresh garlic and aged cheddar. Additional offerings include an all-day breakfast sandwich, house-made pickles, brown sugar lemonade, and organic milkshakes and ice cream cones made with Straus Creamery. This will be an excellent landing space for Super Duper’s all-day menu, serving both locals and visitors.

As part of its lease, Super Duper will coordinate with the Recreation and Park Department, the Union Square Alliance, and plaza programming partners. The goal is for cafe operations to align with the many events, performances, festivals, and seasonal activities held in Union Square throughout the year. The opening adds another dining option to the square as it continues to welcome customers back to the area.

“Our administration is accelerating San Francisco’s downtown recovery and bringing energy back to Union Square,” Mayor Daniel Lurie said in a press release. “I’m thrilled to see Super Duper expanding to Union Square, adding another beloved homegrown business that will draw people downtown and create a welcoming place for families, residents, and visitors.”
