Home is your sanctuary — a safe space where you and your friends and family can gather, unwind, and feel your most comfortable. Whether apartment, house, or condo, a home should be a place that both defines you and works for you, whether that’s maximizing an intimate space, making a loft feel cozy, or simply choosing the colors that speak to your soul.
Redefine Home‘s Kimberly Gettenberg has a mission to create a space that tells the story of the people who live there through richly textured spaces that meld timeless style with functionality and personal preference. Gettenberg utilizes her dual background of psychology and design, along with her rich travel history, to create personal spaces for her clients.
At her combination showroom, design office, and retail space, Gettenberg starts a design journey with an initial client consultation. “We talk about what their goals are concerning the space. How do you want your space to feel?” Gettenberg will get a floor plan and start working on layouts, incorporating any current furnishings, arts, or prized items currently in the home. “Once the layouts are approved, then we go into selection of items such as sofas and area rugs.” Gettenberg has many sofas on display, and she encourages clients to try them out since comfort is as important as style.
The interior design maven says her psychology experience comes in handy when designing spaces since the choices can be very personal. “It’s important to get to know the client because they have to live in the space and enjoy the space. The best designer understands that the way a person lives is important.” That psychology also comes in handy when two people have different tastes in the same space. “It take a little bit of negotiation,” she says.
Gettenberg also makes sure that a person is cozy in their space. “Everyone has a different fell of what makes them comfortable. I think my job is honing in on that while making their home functional.” Color, says Gettenberg, also plays a critical role on making a space personal. “Color choices, and pairing colors together, are a big thing.”
Atlanta locals are invited to visit Redefine Home at 4300 Paces Ferry Road, SE and shop its treasure trove of home accessories, bedding, jewelry, furniture, and more. They can get ideas for their own homes, or book an appointment with Gettenberg for a room or complete home makeover. And, if you’re not in the Atlanta area, no fret — Gettenberg is willing to travel to clients.
For Gettenberg, it’s all about the satisfaction of seeing someone happy in their home. “I want to make a home beautiful. I can see a vision in the end, and it’s about people being excited about coming home to their own space.”
