The Loop’s dining scene continues to grow with another addition coming soon.
It is being reported a new project called Espiritu is planned for the former McCormick & Schmick’s restaurant space downtown at 1 E Wacker Drive. The new concept will serve Chicago staples with Mexican flavors. Co-owner Matt Moore told What Now Chicago an opening date has not yet been set.
Moore is the co-owner of Chicago Cut Steakhouse, one of the city’s most famous steakhouses founded in 2010. One of Moore’s partners at Chicago Cut, Emidio Oceguera, is teaming up with him for this new venture downtown. Oceguera is also behind Cerdito Muerto, a Mexican cuisine spot at 1700 S Halsted Street.
AmTrustRE is the company that carried out the lease. The restaurant will occupy the around 10,000-square-foot space at the ground level. The status of construction is unknown at this time.
1 E Wacker Drive is a tower in The Loop that sits on the north side of the Chicago River, and home to law firms as well as a party venue. Many dining options are in this part of downtown including Protein Bar & Kitchen, Wow Bao – Theater District and Emerald Loop Bar & Grill. The building is right across the street from Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel.
No menu has been released, but staple Chicago dishes could mean deep-dish pizza, Chicago-style hot dogs or prepared steaks. More information on the menu is expected to be revealed in the coming weeks. What Now Chicago has reached out to the owners for more information, and this article may be updated.
