The owners of Sushi YOLO NYC and Takumi Sushi is opening a third sister location Shin Takumi, according to a liquor license application. Shin Takumi is opening in the West Village on 44 Greenwich Ave, in a space that formerly housed Pinky Promise Cafe.
Founder Tianyan Pan his first restaurant, Takumi Sushi, in 2022 as a relatively affordable option in the Lower East Side, serving a 15-course meal for $85. Sushi YOLO opened a year later near Columbus Circle with a slightly pricier menu.
Brushing shoulders with exorbitantly priced omakase restaurants in the West Village, the upcoming Shin Takumi offers the most affordable experience of its siblings, opening with a 12-course menu for $58. Over the course of an hour, Shin Takumi will serve 10 pieces of nigiri, a hand roll, and a dessert. The menu will vary from day to day, depending on the fish and ingredients available on the day.
Despite the current economic conditions, Pan says that diners are more hesitant to go out and spend a lot of money, but “they still want some high quality dinners for celebrations like birthdays and anniversaries,” Pan says. “The is the place we would like to provide.”
According to Pan, Shin Takumi is set to open in early March.
