“We are getting so close,” begins an Instagram post published by Banyan Breeze, the kava bar preparing to open its doors at 16907 Gulf Blvd in North Redington Beach. “Naively, we thought we’d have been open for a few months now. BUT now we realize we were wrong, and that it’s all on God’s timing. But we’ve kept pushing through. We only have the last bit of work to do, then finishing touches and inspections, and we can share an actual date with you. BUT REALLY FRAKING SOON!”

Work on getting the new kava spot open continues. Owner Hailey Rank told What Now on Thursday that, while no official date has been determined yet, it should be sometime in the coming weeks.

“We’re going to be serving kava, excellent coffee and espresso, teas, and fresh local juices,” Rank said.

Rank has been working in kava bars for years, starting 14 years ago, “when Bula was the only one open and there were 5 people on a good night.”

But times have changed since then. Even as young people drink not just less but way less alcohol, people have not lost the desire for a cozy place to sip something tasty. Banyan Breeze is born as part of that development.

“The community is the most important part,” Rank said. “Our mission is to spread joy. We think about the show Cheers. A place where ‘everybody knows your name.’”
