What Now reported in 2024 on plans for Malio’s Prime Steakhouse, the elegant steakhouse offering upscale American fare at 400 N Ashley Drive in Tampa, to expand to St. Pete with a new restaurant, Malio’s Beach House.
The news had come not long after Hurricanes Helene and Milton had created a nightmare for residents and restaurants alike in the Tampa Bay Area, and news of Malio’s Beach House’s planned opening could be taken as a sign of recovery.
“We can’t wait to get open in St. Pete where everything is reopening, coming back stronger than ever,” co-owner Jen Iavarone told What Now at the time.
Now, Derek and Jen Iavarone are preparing to add another new restaurant to the Malio’s family: Moon by Malio’s, launching at 109 Eighth Avenue, on the ground floor of the Berkeley Beach Club hotel.
“Moon by Malio’s owners Derek and Jen Iavarone describe their newest concept as the ‘playful little sister’ of their other two restaurants, Malio’s Prime Steakhouse in downtown Tampa and Malio’s Beach House on St. Pete Beach,” said coverage by St. Pete Rising earlier this summer.
The coverage describes a menu reflecting “Italian and Spanish recipes passed down through generations”—what Derek Iavarone called “our family’s interpretation of coastal fine dining.”
Malio’s has been a family affair since the beginning, after all. The Malio’s Prime website tells the story of the restaurant’s inception:
“The original Malio’s Steakhouse was opened in 1969 by Malio Iavarone, whose immigrant parents had owned and operated their own restaurant since 1945. Always striving to provide their clientele the finest dining experience, Malio’s Steakhouse, for over 50 years, earned a reputation for serving the finest quality food, with superior service and atmosphere.”
