General Mills Announced Plant Closure in Missouri
General Mills, a longstanding food manufacturer, filed a WARN notice on April 6. The filing states that the company will close its plant located at 3850 Millstone Pkwy, Saint Charles, MO 63301.
The layoffs are scheduled to take effect on or about June 8, 2026, or within 14 days thereafter. The filing indicates the layoffs and closure are permanent. Impacted employees do not have the right to transfer jobs or to displace workers at other company facilities.
Fox2Now reported that General Mills announced the closure of three Missouri plants in October 2025. Two locations are in Joplin, and the third is the St. Charles plant. The closure follows the company’s efforts to consolidate manufacturing capacity and streamline costs.
Legacy of General Mills
General Mills is a global food company headquartered in Minnesota. Established in 1928, the company has developed a portfolio of widely known consumer brands across categories, including cereals, snacks, baking products, yogurt, and frozen foods.
Some of its popular brands are Cheerios, Pillsbury, Betty Crocker, Häagen-Dazs, Nature Valley, and Blue Buffalo. The company distributes its products in over 100 countries, serving both retail consumers and foodservice clients.
General Mills has grown over the decades through acquisitions and innovations in packaged foods. The acquisition of Pillsbury in 2001 marked the most significant step in the company’s history. The company is known for “doing good and making food the world loves.” With shifting consumer preferences, the company has also, in recent years, invested in pet food and frozen bakery products. However, the company has undergone a series of changes in order to keep pace with the changing food manufacturing industry.
