Popeyes is at it again! The beloved fried chicken international brand is set to open another location in the Greater Houston region. According to a recently filed permit, the new Popeyes is slated to open in Nederland at 1804 Hwy 365.
Construction on the new Popeyes is expected to start in July and wrap on the last day of this year. If all goes well on the $250,000 project, the 2,215 square-foot quick service eatery should open before the end of the year or early next year.
The region is no stranger to the wildly popular Louisiana fried chicken brand. Texas has the highest concentration of Popeyes restaurants in the United States. As of the end of last year, there were 70 Popeyes locations in Houston, making it the city with the highest number of Popeyes restaurants in the country, and the brand continues to expand its footprint. There are now more than 4,000 Popeyes restaurants worldwide.
At the helm of the opening is CSM Group Senior Manager, Faizan Yousuf. The CSM Group already owns and operates multiple Popeyes locations throughout Texas. What Now Houston reached out to Yousuf to find out more details about the Nederland opening and further expansion plans, but did not hear back by the time of this publication.
The brand was founded by Al Copeland in Arabi, Louisiana, in the early 70s. The brand grew rapidly through franchising and saw an even bigger boom when Popeyes introduced its iconic biscuits in 1983. Restaurant Brands International (RBI) announced its agreement to acquire Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen for $1.8 billion in 2017.
What Now Houston also reached out to RBI’s Peter Perdue for comment on the Nederland opening, further expansion plans, and the partnership with CSM Group, but did not hear back by the time of this publication.
“Popeyes® is not like most fast food chains. With freshly prepared food and a recipe that’s remained unchanged for nearly 50 years,” the Popeyes website reads.
Known for its crispy and well-seasoned fried chicken, the brand has continued its claim to fame through the recent success of its spicy fried chicken sandwich. The viral sensation was a teachable moment for the fast-food industry and showed the tenacity of simplicity and tradition.
Popeyes is anticipated to open in Nederland at 1804 Hwy 365 by the end of the year or early 2027.
