Baskin-Robbins is expanding its presence in the Greater Houston region by opening an additional ice cream shop in New Caney. According to a recently filed permit, the new Baskin-Robbins is slated to open in the Valley Ranch Town Center in East Montgomery County at 21580 Marketplace Drive.

Construction is expected to start in September and wrap up in September of the following year. But the franchisee for the 1,398 sqaure-foot new Baskin-Robbins shared that he anticipates opening a couple of months after construction kicks off, in the winter of this year.

Gourung Patel of the hospitality enterprise, Tattava Group, is at the helm of the new opening. While Patel confirmed the opening and timeline in a conversation with What Now Houston, he was unable to share further details by the time of this publication.

“Led by Neil and Gaurang Patel, The Tattva Group is a premier community of franchisee partners operating iconic brands across Maryland and Pennsylvania, including Dunkin’, Jimmy John’s, Buffalo Wild Wings Go, QDOBA, Baskin-Robbins, and Little Caesars Pizza,” The Tattva Group LinkedIn page reads.

“Many Branches Growing as One” defines our commitment to a People First Culture. We strive to be good citizens in every community we serve—both for the guests at our tables and the dedicated team members who come to work in our restaurants. By prioritizing our people and our neighborhoods, we ensure that as our branches spread, we grow stronger together.”

While it is unclear just how many Baskin-Robbins ice cream shops the group operates, it’s obvious that this is not the first rodeo for The Tattva Group.

Baskin-Robbins got its start in Glendale, California, in 1945. Brothers-in-law, Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins, merged their separate ice cream ventures in 1947 to create the brand we all know and love today. Known for its “31 flavors” concept introduced in 1953, Baskin-Robbins sought to offer a new flavor for every day of the month.

Today, there are more than 7,800 Baskin-Robbins locations worldwide. There are more than 2,100 locations in the US, with the highest concentration found in California. Texas has nearly 200 locations, but the Greater Houston region has fewer than 50.

“All of our 2400+ locations in the United States are locally owned and operated,” the Baskin-Robbins website reads.

“So, no matter which shop you visit, you’re always supporting a local business. And that’s a reason to celebrate.”
