Mexican flavors continue to heat up the Philadelphia dining scene as La Catrachita expands again, this time with a new twist.
Dubbed the “best birria tacos in Philly,” the new shop will open at 8016 Frankford Ave. in the former Wokworks space, according to an Instagram post.
“This project is the dream of two brothers who believed in the brand—bringing you the same system, the same flavor-packed tacos you love, now in a halal version,” the post read.

The new location will serve Tex-Mex quesadillas, street tacos, burritos, nachos, wings, salads, Mexican fries and tortas, alongside its signature birria.
Birria is a traditional Mexican dish that originated in the state of Jalisco. While there are several regional variations, La Catrachita will offer a Tijuana-style version, served with melted cheese and consommé.
An official opening date has not yet been announced, however, the team shared to Instagram: “Grand Opening Date dropping soon. Stay locked in.”
Once open, the restaurant will operate from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sundays.
