Bratz Y’all Bistro in New Orleans is preparing to close its doors. The German-style bistro will serve its final meal June 1, ending a nine-year run. In its announcement, the team cited rising costs, landlord issues, and financial pressures.

Bratz Y’all Bistro to Close After Nearly a Decade

Situated in the heart of the Bywater neighborhood, Bratz Y’all is a local favorite bistro, bakery, and biergarten. It serves popular German delicacies like freshly baked Bavarian pretzels, cheese pretzels, and more. The restaurant is well-known for offering authentic German street food, beers, and wine.

In a Facebook post, the owner announced the closure. He wrote, “After nine unforgettable years, we are closing our Bratz, y’all! Biergarten on June 1.”

Bratz Y’all Bistro was founded in 2017 by owner Sven Vorkauf, originally from Berlin. In the post, he reflected on his journey and said, “I came from Berlin in 2010, worked my way through markets and festivals, and finally found a place for Bratz, y’all. What my team and I built became more than a business—it became a community and family.”

He thanked the community for its support: “Thank you for your support, your energy, and your love over the years. It meant everything.”

Rising Costs and Landlord Issues Led to Closure

According to the closure announcement, rising rent and other economic challenges made Bratz’s operations difficult. Sven explained that business has been “through hurricanes, Covid, and so many other hurdles.”

“But with the recent announcement of a rent increase, the loss of our event space, rising costs, and a landlord situation that no longer works with us, this is where the road will end,” the owner added.

Before closing, the owner invited patrons to visit one last time. In the post, he mentioned, “We’ll be open through May 31, and I want to invite all of you to come by—have a drink, dance, laugh, and celebrate with us one more time.” Let’s give this place the goodbye it deserves.”

The bistro also plans to sell its “art, equipment, glassware, etc.—little pieces of the Bratz Y’all Biergarten.”

With the closure of Bratz Y’all Biergarten, the New Orleans dining landscape is losing a local favorite spot.
