The historic Prairie District is continuing to experience development this year.
Patio is a new cafe and bistro to serve upscale Mediterranean cuisine at 1800 S Wabash in Near South Side. Owner Shahriar (Shaw) Farokhi told What Now Chicago he and the team are planning a soft opening in mid-June, and then fully opening the cafe in July, with the bistro to follow.
“A new space for coffee, brunch, cocktails and late nights in Chicago,” says the description on their Instagram page. An official menu has not been released yet.
The restaurant is under construction at the intersection of S Wabash and E 18th Street. The Staley sports bar is just a couple streets down, along with Oliver’s new American restaurant. Chinatown is only a short walk west of the address, and is close to the Cermak-Chinatown CTA station.
This building is a recent development, as Chicago City Council approved the affordable housing development in summer 2023. This is a 63-foot tower that offers 50 units, and Patio will be at the base of the building with both indoor and outdoor seating.
The team will be updating the community on the opening date in the next few weeks. What Now Chicago is awaiting further comment from Shaw on the new concept.
