Known for its Zacatecan-style Mexican burritos, Burritos La Palma has earned a devoted following among locals and acclaimed chefs alike, fueling the brand’s continued expansion across California. The upcoming Anaheim outpost will become the family-owned restaurant’s sixth spot in California and its third in Orange County, at 131 E Katella Ave, Suite 20, according to a plan review filed with the Orange County Health Care Agency.
Before bringing its signature Zacatecan-style burritos to Los Angeles, the owner, Alberto Bañuelos, had launched the brand’s first taqueria in the Mexican state of Zacatecas in 1980. Over the years, Burritos La Palma has grown into a celebrated destination for Mexican food enthusiasts, with its renowned birria burrito frequently praised by Los Angeles food critics.
The menu includes the classic birria burrito, with spiced shredded beef stew and soft flour tortillas. But the all-time favourite is the birria, frijoles, & queso, in which refried beans are added.
Although Burritos La Palma’s servings gather simple ingredients, their complex flavors have earned the restaurant a Michelin Bib Gourmand from 2019 to 2023, and also won the Golden Tortilla in KCRW and Gustavo’s Great Tortilla Tournament in 2021.
