A taste of Eastern Europe is headed to New Orleans as Dom Zakuski is set to open in September, introducing diners to a menu inspired by traditional Slavic cuisine.
The new location for the restaurant will be 2440 Chartres Street and is owned by Katya Simkhovich.
She told WhatNow Media Group that the spot itself also has a long history. “Before I got there, it was Little Horns, which was a breakfast spot. Then prior to that, it was Cake Cafe, which was a beloved cafe and restaurant, and they were in that space for fifteen years,” said Simkhovich.
She said she is excited about the new location and to introduce customers to the food she grew up with. “I love the food that I grew up with, which is Slavic food, but it can get kinda complicated. My parents grew up in the Soviet Union, so it’s really like, Soviet food is a very specific kind of set of dishes and cuisines.
“Here used to be a restaurant Green Room on Saint Bernard that served pierogies and borscht and stroganoff and, you know, represented that cuisine a bit. But since they closed a couple years ago, no one’s really no one’s doing Slavic or Eastern European food,” she said.
