A “family-owned and -operated store in the Sarasota area since 2002,” Detwiler’s Farm Market currently operates seven locations in Sarasota, Palmetto, Bradenton, and Venice. Now, it’s preparing to open a new store in North Port.

The news was announced on the City of North Port’s official website this week.

“The family-owned and operated chain of local grocery stores has signed a lease agreement on a 52,000-square-foot standalone store that will be built to anchor a new retail center coming to the northwest corner of Sumter Boulevard and Interstate 75,” said the announcement.

The new Detwiler’s is expected to be the chain’s largest, bringing 125 jobs to North Port.

“This is a big step forward for us,” Sam Detwiler, company president, said in the announcement. “North Port is growing quickly, and we’re looking forward to growing alongside it — bringing our quality, value and unique shopping experience to even more families.”

The announcement adds that the site plan application is currently under review by city staff. The North Port Detwiler’s Farm Market’s projected opening would take place in Q4 2028.

“Our conversations with the developer began at a conference we attended more than 18 months ago in Orlando,” Economic Development Manager Michael Meerman said in the announcement. “It’s exciting to see those efforts result in the kind of quality shopping and dining options that our residents have wanted here in North Port for years.”
