A recently filed application with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) shows The Bird seeking a new license under license number, signaling plans for a location at 2031 Chestnut Street in San Francisco. While the company has yet to announce the expansion or publicly share an opening timeline, the filing suggests it is preparing to take over the former home of Asian Box.
The Bird currently operates two San Francisco restaurants in SoMa and Hayes Valley, where it became famous for its fried chicken sandwiches, curly fries, wings, and other comfort-food menu items. The brand emphasizes free-range dark meat chicken, house-made apple slaw, and locally baked buns as hallmarks of its menu.
The Bird says its mission is to make high-quality comfort food accessible without the premium price tag. As the company explains on its website, it aims to be “the go-to for indulgent food that’s made with integrity and quality ingredients, sold for just 10.25 bucks,” adding, “We’ve set out to prove that a really satisfying meal doesn’t have to eat up the paycheck.” That philosophy has helped define the brand’s approach to its fried chicken sandwiches and other comfort food favorites.
