Lado A Lado is preparing to open this fall at 5202 N. Central Ave. in Uptown Phoenix, replacing Joyride Taco House at The Block, according to the Phoenix Business Journal. The new concept is a collaboration between Upward Projects and Chiwas Hospitality Group.

Joyride’s Uptown location on Central Avenue will serve its final guests on Aug. 2 before construction begins on the new restaurant.

The name Lado A Lado, which translates to “side by side,” reflects both the partnership between the two Arizona restaurant groups and the concept’s inspiration: the tradition of gathering around shared meals rooted in the Sonoran region.

Few details about the restaurant’s menu have been released so far, but guests can expect Northern Mexican cuisine featuring open-flame and wood-fired cooking, with flavors that balance smoke and citrus.

Chiwas Hospitality Group was founded by chefs Armando Hernandez, Nadia Holguin, and Roberto Centeno. The trio is known for concepts including Tacos Chiwas, Cocina Chiwas, Espiritu, Main Burger, Aruma Cafe, and the upcoming Tortillas Chiwas, and has earned multiple James Beard Award semifinalist recognitions.

Led by CEO and co-founder Lauren Bailey, Upward Projects operates Postino, Federal Pizza, Windsor, Churn, and Joyride.

The collaboration marks Chiwas Hospitality Group’s first restaurant in North Central Phoenix. Additional details about the menu, design, and opening timeline are expected to be announced in the coming months.
