With more than 300 stores around the country, Academy Sports + Outdoors is one of America’s largest sporting goods retailers. Boasting 11 stores open or in development in the Palmetto State, the brand has made its mark in the area—and its next location will be in Lexington, joining the Victory Village shopping center.
“A major retail transformation is underway along Augusta Highway in Lexington County, with a new Target-anchored shopping center and several other businesses reshaping the corridor near Lexington High School,” says coverage published earlier this month by The State. “The area is drawing national chains and local favorites alike as the county’s population continues to climb.”
The new retail center will boast 230,000 square feet of retail space, with a number of restaurant and retail concepts already signed on. The Academy Sports + Outdoors store, located at 2568 Augusta Highway, will anchor Victory Village together with Target.
“Academy Sports + Outdoors is one of the nation’s largest sporting goods and outdoor stores. With 301 stores across 21 states, as of March 7, 2025, we offer a broad assortment of quality hunting, fishing, and camping equipment and gear, along with sports and leisure products, footwear, apparel and much more,” says the Academy website. “Over the last several decades, the company has grown substantially from its small beginnings. Sales reached one billion dollars in 2003, two billion dollars in 2007, three billion dollars in 2012, and four billion dollars in 2014. In fiscal 2022, sales reached $6.4 billion.”
