Magnolia Hotel Houston, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel announced the debut of Press & Pour, a new coffee and cocktail bar in the heart of downtown Houston. The all-day café and lounge opened last month on the corner of Texas Ave. and Fannin St. and invites guests to enjoy a full coffee and espresso bar with handcrafted cocktails, fresh-baked pastries, shareable bites and daily happy hour.
The Press & Pour experience evolves throughout the day. In the morning, it operates as a full-service coffee bar, serving pastries baked fresh daily, with menu highlights including barista inspired espresso beverages, iced and blended coffees and refreshers and a signature Colossal Cinnamon Roll. In the afternoon and evening the atmosphere shifts, inviting guests to settle into open seating for classic cocktails and original creations from the mixology team, like the signature smoked old fashioned and the Black Gold that combines flavors of bourbon, blackberry, basil and lemon, as well as a selection of mocktails. The evening menu features shareable small plates designed for casual gatherings, with highlights including whipped goat cheese and prosciutto toast, as well as $5 happy hour specials available daily from 4-6 p.m.
“Press & Pour was created to meet a need in downtown Houston for an inviting space where hotel guests, business travelers and the local community can start the day with a quality cup of coffee, settle in for a work session or unwind with a cocktail,” said Justin Sides, director of operations at Magnolia Hotel Houston in a statement. “We look forward to welcoming guests for morning coffee, happy hour or to gather before and after a game at nearby Daikin Park.”
The debut of Press & Pour comes as Magnolia Hotel Houston celebrates its milestone 100th anniversary, and its name pays homage to the building’s history while reflecting the concept’s dual identity. “Press” is a nod to the Houston Post-Dispatch, the newspaper that once called the building home, while “Pour” represents both the morning coffee program and the evening cocktail experience. Throughout the space, design details connect the present-day concept to Houston’s past, including a 1920s typewriter, an original structural beam that serves as a centerpiece of the space, a collection of photographs sourced from 1920s-era downtown Houston – including a collage of vintage photographs that evokes the Prohibition era – and a map of Greater Houston that celebrates the city itself. A copper moonshine still further connects the space to the history and craftsmanship behind its cocktail program.
Press & Pour offers 52 seats indoors, including bar-height window seating, booth seating and a communal table, as well as a covered, pet-friendly outdoor patio with an additional 10 seats. Wi-Fi and outlets throughout the space make it an ideal spot for remote workers and informal meetings, while five televisions broadcast sports and other programming throughout the evening, ensuring sports fans don’t miss any pre- and post-game coverage.
